A Founder’s Visit:
Inspiring Dreams in Depok, indonesia
|
The first week of July 2025 was an unforgettable moment for one of our founders, Xinyang Long. A young woman from a privileged background in China, Xinyang had the opportunity to visit Lensa Anak Terminal (LAT) in Depok, Indonesia. True to Hope4Future’s evidence-based approach, the visit wasn’t just another outreach, it became a profound moment of connection and inspiration.
Walking into the colorful, lively layover-area classroom, surrounded by the constant hum of buses and commuters, Xinyang was immediately struck by the energy and resilience of the children. Despite the challenging environment—living near terminal buses, navigating cramped spaces, and facing economic hardships—these young learners radiated curiosity, joy, and determination. They were accompanied by Setyo, the founder of LAT, whose dedication has created a safe and nurturing space for children who might otherwise be overlooked. Among the children were Itcha and Lina, two girls whose ambition shone as vividly as their laughter. Sitting with them, Xinyang listened as Itcha shared her dream of becoming a doctor, while Lina spoke of wanting to be both a writer and a doctor. She was moved by their clarity, determination, and hope. “Even in such difficult circumstances,” Xinyang later reflected, “these children carry dreams as big as the world. Meeting them reminded me why Hope4Future exists.” These conversations weren’t just about goals—they were about hope, resilience, and the transformative power of mentorship. Seeing the children flourish under LAT’s guidance, despite the obstacles they face every day, reinforced the importance of supporting initiatives that empower young minds. Children like Itcha and Lina have the right to grow, dream, and thrive, regardless of their circumstances. For Xinyang, the visit was a personal awakening. It highlighted the stark contrast between her own opportunities, having graduated from Columbia University in New York, and the challenges these children face, while also reaffirming the universal truth that every child’s potential deserves nurturing. LAT’s work deserves recognition and support as it not only provides education but also instills confidence, ambition, and a sense of belonging in children who need it most. By empowering children like Itcha and Lina, we invest not only in individual futures but in the future of Indonesia itself. |
