OUR STORY
|
"I am thankful for our paths crossed," said Fumiko. After returning from Jakarta, I, Fumiko, began building a scheme to support children in Indonesia. Because I teach at Columbia University, I reached out to the Columbia School of Social Work for help. To my amazement, I was connected with two extraordinarily talented students, Thien and Xinyang. Each of them brings unique strengths that perfectly complement the project. Thien grew up on a small island in Indonesia, Aru Island, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by underprivileged children. She has long been involved in supporting vulnerable youth in her home country and carries with her an extensive network of like-minded advocates on the ground. Thien quickly became the heart of our connection to grassroots organizations. She helps us truly understand the lived experiences of children, especially those in remote regions who are often overlooked. Through her stories, her cultural insight, and her ability to communicate with communities in their own language and context, she brings the realities of these children’s lives to the forefront of our work. Beyond her deep understanding of the field, she is also remarkably creative and skillful; she has taken the lead in producing our website, brochure, and logo, shaping not only the substance of our mission but also its public voice and identity. Xinyang, on the other hand, contributes a completely different yet equally vital set of skills. With her expertise in organizational management, corporate social responsibility, and leadership, she brings a strategic lens to our work. Coming from China, a country whose businesses are increasingly active and influential in Indonesia, she offers valuable insight into how we can build bridges with Chinese companies seeking meaningful engagement and responsible partnerships. Her communication skills and deep understanding of corporate dynamics allow us to explore new collaborations and expand the scale of our impact. Together, Thien and Xinyang form a powerful team. One rooted in community connection and lived experience, the other grounded in strategic thinking and international partnership. Their combined strengths are an incredible gift to this project and to the children we hope to serve. |
