OUR BENEFICIARIES
Ketongbaca
Picture
KetongBaca is a literacy initiative that aims to increase children’s interest in reading in remote areas, particularly in the area of Kupang, in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia. The program targets disadvantaged areas and utilizes a technology-based approach through providing an offline digital library. This means that children from elementary to high school levels can access relevant and interesting reading materials, despite being in areas with limited internet access.
The name “KetongBaca” comes from an expression in the local Indonesian language that means “We Read,” reflecting a spirit of togetherness and a commitment to build a culture of literacy from an early age.
KetongBaca receives community-based support, both in the form of in-kind donations (such as books) and funding provided through submitted proposals. ~ KetongBaca also collaborates with local schools and churches to strengthen its outreach and receive support from within the community.
Currently, KetongBaca has two locations, has more than 800 ebooks available in the digital library, and has reached more than 500 children. This initiative has already proven to be effective. It is a true game-changer for literacy learning for children in remote areas, as well as meaningful entertainment in their spare time. In addition to providing access to reading, KetongBaca also regularly organizes various literacy activities and community events that encourage the growth of this spirit of reading in these local remote areas.

sekolah mimpi
Picture
Sekolah Mimpi (Dream School) is more than just a place of learning. It is a platform dedicated to providing life skills to underprivileged children in the Aru Islands, Maluku, Indonesia, with a focus on fostering eco-consciousness and practical abilities. To eliminate financial barriers to education and address plastic waste issues in the region, the school implements an innovative system where students pay for their education using plastic trash. For the coastal children of Aru, this model transforms something once discarded into a powerful tool for change.
Sekolah Mimpi is not just about the classroom, it's a movement. Beyond teaching eco-literacy and practical skills, the school actively works with formal education institutions to inspire the adoption of sustainable, environmentally conscious practices. Through hands-on training, community workshops, and immersive learning experiences, Sekolah Mimpi empowers local youth and communities to understand and take action on pressing environmental challenges such as plastic pollution, climate change, and ecosystem degradation.
Over the years, Sekolah Mimpi has garnered meaningful support and built strong alliances with a wide range of partners, including the Government of Aru, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Indika Foundation, and other forward-thinking organizations. These collaborations have helped amplify the impact of the school, expand its reach, and reinforce its commitment to shaping a generation of environmentally responsible and socially conscious individuals.
In essence, Sekolah Mimpi is not only nurturing students, it is nurturing changemakers. It is cultivating a future where education is accessible to all, and where the youth of Aru grow into stewards of their land, their seas, and their communities. By reimagining the value of waste and the meaning of education, Sekolah Mimpi is turning dreams into action, and action into lasting change.

lensa anak terminal
Picture
Lensa Anak Terminal (LAT) is a community-based visual creative arts learning initiative that includes photography, drawing, storytelling, and film studies. It is specifically designed for underprivileged children who live, play, and work around the Depok bus station. Established in 2021, LAT is now in its fourth year of educational activities. Utilizing the photovoice methodology, LAT adopts an emancipatory approach to community-based learning. Its goal is to nurture children’s self-awareness and idealism, spark social change, inspire a passion for learning all forms of art and creative expression, and empower them as future creative actors.
Over three years of community learning, LAT has successfully showcased children’s work through seven independent exhibitions and participated for three consecutive years in Indonesia’s largest photography event—the Jakarta International Photo Festival. LAT has also shared its artworks and creative learning methods in five different countries and published two volumes of photography books featuring the children's creations.
By integrating critical pedagogy and democratic principles through the concept of the public sphere into its learning methodology, LAT has found that photography fosters participants' self-awareness of the structural conditions surrounding them. Meanwhile, other visual forms such as drawing, storytelling, and collage help them articulate imagination and critical thinking, challenging existing structures in pursuit of an ideal society. Collectively, the organization prepares participants not only as future creative professionals in Depok but also as agents of social transformation.
To ensure the sustainability of its programs, LAT collaborates with the city government, philanthropic institutions, grassroots movements, and local stakeholders—including authorities and parents—to organize inclusive initiatives that benefit the wider public. Currently, LAT is working to establish a child-friendly creative space called Stana Karsa, located under the Arif Rahman Hakim flyover in Depok. Designed as a safe space for learning and play, the community hopes to build a library and a reading park as the foundation of this space, pending sufficient funding.

SahabaT LAUJE SETARA

Sahabat Lauje Setara (SLS) is a community-driven organization dedicated to supporting children and families of the Lauje Indigenous Community in Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi. Limited access to education has led to more than 185 children dropping out of school in the area. Through its ‘Ruang Pintar’ program– a creative and safe learning space– SLS strengthens children’s confidence, literacy skills, and motivation to continue their formal education.
SLS works by providing weekly learning sessions, featuring child-centered, interest-based activities with about 80 children participating. It also offers parent classes to help caregivers better support their children’s education. Through storybook creation, children develop local storybooks that can later be printed to support their education savings. Finally, community showcases highlight the children’s books and program results, helping to build long-term support from local governments.
